How many visits does it take for a dental implant?

Receiving a new tooth using a dental implant is a three steps process. Note that every patient is different and patient results may vary. The entire process takes from 3 to 8 months.

  • Consultation appointment: we review your medical and dental history, perform a through examination, possible x-rays, and plan the procedure.

  • Second appointment: the dental implant is placed in the jaw bone. It would take 3 to 4 months for the implant to become stable.

  • At the 3rd appointment: an abutment is attached to the implant and an impression is taken. In two weeks, the final restoration is delivered.

 

How painful is getting a dental implant?

The procedure appointment is typically 60 to 90 minutes and since the area will be anesthetized, you can expect not to feel any pain during the procedure. You may feel pressure at times, but it should not cause you discomfort.

 

How long after dental implants placement can I eat normally?

You will be thoroughly comfortable, via local antiesthetic, through the implant placement process. You will receive the required prescription medications and will be given a complete post operation instruction. Typically, the anesthesia would last for couple of hours when after you may have something to eat. It recommended to eat soft food and avoid hot drinks for 2 days after surgery.

 

How much do implants cost and does insurance cover the cost? 

Dental implant treatment may qualify for some insurance coverage, but situations vary. The cost will vary by patient needs, and bone quantity. If you do not have dental insurance, our office offers an in-house discount plan. 

 

Do dental implant decay, and how long do they last?

Dental implants are not susceptible to dental decay but their long term success can be affected by the gum’s disease.
